{"id":36765,"date":"2024-08-01T12:10:08","date_gmt":"2024-08-01T11:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/petscanner.com\/?p=36765"},"modified":"2024-08-07T12:26:52","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T11:26:52","slug":"how-microchips-helped-find-a-lost-dog-after-almost-a-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/petscanner.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/01\/how-microchips-helped-find-a-lost-dog-after-almost-a-decade\/","title":{"rendered":"How Microchips Helped Find A Lost Dog After Almost A Decade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting your dog or cat microchipped and having them registered with a database and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chip checker<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> service is an essential part of being a pet owner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The biggest reason why this is the case is that<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it is the law<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and owners can be fined as much as \u00a3500 if their dog or cat is not microchipped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, beyond legal responsibilities and a general responsibility to your local community, microchips can be essential for saving a pet\u2019s life or reuniting a lost dog with their owner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one case, this happened despite said dog going missing for over a decade, according to a beautiful story<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/missing-dog-las-vegas-found-nine-years-cb3114985d43e2ac12a5062c48447794\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported by the Associated Press<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2015, Judith Monzarrez, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, lost her pet dog Gizmo due to a faulty back gate in their home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dog, then two years old, was always on Judith\u2019s mind even when she completed her master\u2019s degree, started teaching in higher education and moved out of her parent\u2019s home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The one hope she had was that Gizmo was microchipped and she had not received any bad news, and even as the years passed, that kept a spark of hope in her heart, as well as worry about where her pet Chihuahua was and if he was okay.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, on 17th July 2024, she got a call she had dreamed of receiving for nine years but never expected. A woman had taken her dog to the vet, who then confirmed his identity thanks to his microchip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This led to an automatic email notification that Gizmo had been found, and just a few hours later Judith and Gizmo were finally reunited after nine years and had a chance to catch up on so many lost years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This reunion simply could not have happened without microchips and it is just one of so many instances of lost pets being reunited through the technology.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getting your dog or cat microchipped and having them registered with a database and chip checker service is an essential part of being a pet owner.
