{"id":38746,"date":"2024-10-31T12:26:59","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T11:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/petscanner.com\/?p=38746"},"modified":"2024-11-05T12:30:02","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T11:30:02","slug":"reunited-cat-hailed-as-benefit-of-microchipping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/petscanner.com\/index.php\/2024\/10\/31\/reunited-cat-hailed-as-benefit-of-microchipping\/","title":{"rendered":"Reunited Cat Hailed As Benefit Of Microchipping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A cat that was returned to its family after going missing for six months has been hailed as a prime example of why <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/petscanner.com\/index.php\/microchip-lookup\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">getting a cat chipped<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is so important.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-gb\/news\/uknews\/missing-cat-martha-reunited-with-owner-after-being-missing-for-six-months\/ar-AA1qZktu?ocid=BingNewsVerp\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Falkirk Herald<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported on how Martha, a black cat from the town, went missing in September before being taken to the Cat\u2019s Protection Forth Valley Centre following reports of a stray.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteer Margaret Kirkwood scanned Marth and found she was chipped, which meant she could be reunited with her owners. She had been rehomed from Yorkshire in February, but had run away the day she arrived.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should be no surprise that Martha was chipped, as it has been<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c7221y677nqo\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a legal requirement in England<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for cats over the age of 20 weeks to be chipped since June this year. However, this is not yet the case in Scotland. Moreover, not everyone has followed the law even where it does apply, with the paper reporting that around three million UK cats are not chipped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking about the case, the deputy manager of the centre Rachael Ward said: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Being able to reunite Martha was the best feeling, but it was only possible because of her microchip and Margaret\u2019s dedication.\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martha\u2019s owner drove all the way from Yorkshire to be reunited with her missing pet, despite initially being sceptical about the call she received after being scammed before. Declaring herself \u201cover the moon\u201d, she has taken the cat back to her old stomping ground in the north of England.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If six months had been a long time for Martha to be missing, seven years was something else. But, the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cm28l0e2rr8o?at_link_type=web_link&amp;at_bbc_team=editorial&amp;at_format=link&amp;at_campaign_type=owned&amp;at_medium=social&amp;at_campaign=Social_Flow&amp;at_ptr_name=twitter&amp;at_link_origin=BBCScotlandNews&amp;at_link_id=C02637A8-7DB6-11EF-B2D\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BBC reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that was what happened to Kylo, a cat from Glasgow who had gone missing and was only reunited with his real owners after spending the intervening years north of the city in the town of Bishopbriggs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He had been found and adopted by a woman who had mistaken him for a female and renamed the cat Poppy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Kylo\u2019s true identity was discovered when he was scanned during a trip to the vet,
