An Essex woman was recently reunited with her two-year-old cat Barnaby, who had been missing for eight months, after hearing and recognising his meow during a phone call.
According to iNews, mother-of-three Rachael Lawrence from Braintree in Essex said she was on the phone to a vet, who was looking after her other cat, Torvi, following a procedure, when she heard and recognised a distinctive ‘meow’ in the background.
Rachael asked if it was Torvi meowing, but the vet told her it was a stray they had brought in a week earlier.
She added that she later range back the vet, as the ‘meow’ she heard had been ‘bugging’ her for a couple of hours, and she asked the vet if the stray cat was black with a white patch on one of his back feet, to which she was told he did.
Rachael went to see the cat at the vets as she picked up Torvi, taking some photos of Barnaby, also known by the family as ‘Fatman’, and said that she knew it was him the moment he was brought into the room.
“I cried,” she said. “I’m talking snot bubble cries. I was howling. We hadn’t seen him for eight months.”
She then video-called her children to show them who she had found.
“They went, ‘Oh, my god, it’s Barney. It’s Fatman!’
Rachael said that Barnaby is back home where he should be and is getting on well, and is happy to be picked up and cuddled, despite the feline having ‘loads of scabs and he’s all skinny and missing fur’, but she said the family will soon fatten him back up and get back his Fatman moniker.
She added that she had paid to have Barnaby microchipped before he went missing, but it seems it had been done properly.
